The European Recovered Fuel Organisation (ERFO) was founded in 2001 in Brussels.

Members of ERFO are European companies which produce Solid Recovered Fuels (SRF) or intend to do so. The foundation was the result of two projects on the European possibilities to use SRF promoted by the general directorate for transport and energy (DG TREN) from 1998 to 2002.

The aim of ERFO is to promote the production and use of SRF in Europe, by supporting the standardisation of SRF within CEN TC 343, by supporting research projects and by participating in all European political debates on legislation around SRF.

ERFO’s executive committee currently has six members from Belgium, France, Germany, UK, the Netherlands and Spain. President of ERFO is Bernard Lanfranchi of the French company Veolia Environmental services.

ERFO’s general assembly meets twice a year to discuss all kinds of strategic and political items, which are prepared by a working group and the executive committee.

Currently  ERFO has 13 members covering production sites and companies in several European countries. Members include multinational waste management groups as well as regional producers. New members fulfilling the criteria for membership and supporting the charter of ERFO are always welcome.

On all important issues of its work as an association ERFO co-operates with associations working in similar or adjacent fields like FEAD, EURITS, EUCOPRO, CEWEP, Cembureau and PlasticsEurope.
